Maine Outdoor Adventures

Adventure travel has shown explosive growth over the past decade.

Says William Norman CEO of the Travel Industry Association “American travelers want their vacations to be more thrilling. They are looking for new ways to challenge themselves, to push their physical energies to the edge and face nature at its boldest moments.”

Maine’s outdoor outfitters offer both soft and hard adventures. Rafting, hiking, mountain biking, canoeing and kayaking, sportyaking, fishing, moose watch tours, rock-climbing, ATV trips and sky diving complete the adventure menu. Outdoor enthusiasts can immerse themselves in Maine-a state referred to as the last true wilderness of the East-with 90% forestland.

Maine Outdoor Adventures: The famous Appalachian Trail passes through the region ending at Mt. Katahdin in Baxter State Park near the Penobscot River. Ninety foot high Moxie Falls is a short, half day hike from The Forks on the Kennebec.

Abandoned logging roads and a riverside trail system provide endless journeys for mountain bikers. In the winter there is snowmobiling, ice fishing, cross country skiing and snowshoeing.
